INTERNATIONAL ORGAN CONCERT SERIES @ ST. MARK'S CHURCH 2014
It has been already four years now, since new organ from the workshop of the German organ maker Wolfgang Eisenbarth have been involved in music-making at St. Mark's Church. Since its inauguration on the 10th of May, 2011 – when the sounds of bells and organ solemnly intoned the Gloria in excelsis Deo! – this instrument not only serve to enrich the regular liturgical celebrations at this important historic church, but also serves as an extremely valuable concert instrument, by which we once again witness the proverbial truth that each new instrument undoubtedly improves the quality of cultural life of the whole community. We are happy to announce the selection of some of the finest international organists from Europe, United States, as well as Croatia, whose presence at this organ festival will not only enrich the musical life of our city, but also provide possibility of enjoying the masterpieces of organ repertoire, under the fingers of the world-renowned performers. With this series of nine concerts we also want to remind our fellow citizens, as well as all dear guests of Zagreb about the important fact in Croatian history: how this very church of St. Mark of the Upper Town bears earliest record of Croatian organists and organ itself, whose sound echoed these ancient church walls of the oldest parish church in Zagreb as early as 1359. With this in mind, let everyone share a moment rich with history and art in this year's selection of music - welcome to the St. Mark's International Organ Concert Series!
