New recording of J. S. Bach's organ works includes 2 CDs with made-in-Leipzig masterpieces that Bach worked on through his final years. Pavao Mašić presents The Art of Fugue in a way that reflects practical nature of the work, a music that is meant to be played and listened, enjoyed both through performer's and listener's experience. Following that premise, this recording presents Bach's unfinished version of the work, as well as the reconstructed version made in 1991 by Zoltán Göncz (published by Carus-Verlag in 2006) through the use of permutational matrix, thus achieving work's monumental ending in the form of quadruple fugue.
Also included are the two chorale settings from The Leipzig Autograph: Advent chorale tune Nun komm' der Heiden Heiland in three settings, as well as Canonic Variations on Christmas tune Vom Himmel hoch, da komm ich her, a marvelous display of Bach's musical and contrapuntal inventiveness united in a truly impressive piece.
Pavao Mašić plays the Great Eisenbarth Organ of the historical Church of St. Mark in Zagreb.
